When a company moves into a new facility they dedicate lots of floor space to their maintenance department. As the company grows they tend to cannabalize the space they need from their maintenance department. What was once a large space for storing all of the required items that makes a company run has now become a small space. Quite often a company feels that their only option is to move to a larger facility. A solution is a Vertical Carousel (VC), Horzontal Carousel (HC), Vertical Lift Module (VLM) or an Automated Storage Retrieval System (AS/RS).
These days it's all about "Revenue Per Square Foot".
A motorized vertical carousel can handle everything from totes to tires, and industrial rolled goods to spools -- and almost anything in between. Systems are UL listed and can be built in various heights and widths to accommodate hard-to handle materials. Vertical carousels can save up to 70% of the valuable floor space taken up by traditional storage solutions. These units can also minimize dependence on forklifts and ladders and provide a more ergonomic workplace.
The Vertical Lift Module (VLM) is a Vertical automated storage system that utilizes the principle "product to human" is being applied, which allows for optimizing trajectories and reduced storage/retrieval times. It operates in a very simple way; the operator chooses the desired product on the screen and the shuttle automatically moves to the level where it is located. It selects the corresponding tray and carries it to the picking site or the table for outgoing goods.
Advantages Include
Computerized warehouse management.
Saving of space: the entire height of the premises is being used.
Saving of time: the operator does not have to leave his/her place to prepare an order.
Safety of goods.
The Automated Storage and Retrieval System commonly known as ASRS or AS/RS is the optimum system for handling boxes for picking. The ASR system follows the “product to man” concept. The automatic pick system is the ultimate in high density, high efficiency storage systems. The mini-load automated warehouse for boxes is made up of a central aisle between two rows of rack. The stacker crane travels down the central aisle and is designed to automatically pick plastic totes, boxes, trays or palletized goods. The picking and handling area is made up of conveyors and is positioned at one end or at the side of the racking. Here, the stacker crane deposits the load extracted from the rack. The conveyors then take the box to the operator and once he/she has finished the task at hand, it is returned to the stacker crane, which then places it back into the racking. The whole system is controlled by a management software package, which registers the location of all the materials in the warehouse and keeps an inventory in real time. The system’s extraordinary capacity to adapt enables it to be integrated into any production or storage process.
